I bet you are thinking – *But can’t I just make a shortcut :(* The answer is – of course you can! But, if you use this tweak you can actually recreate the *native Internet Explorer* icon the way it used to look in the good old days. You obtain two benefits from having the native icon #1 – you can right click on it directly which will take you directly to the internet Options panel and #2 it doesn’t have that annoying shortcut icon.
Please note – this doesn’t work in Windows 7 – you will need to create a regular shortcut instead.
Using the start menu search or run box, open up the regedit.exe and then browse to the following key
[HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorer
HideDesktopIconsNewStartPanel]
Look for the key named “{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}” which will be on the right hand side, and then set the value to *0*. If this key does not work, then create a new 32-bit DWORD value with the same name. If you want to remove the icon set the value to 1 instead.
Please note – if you are using the Classic Start Menu you should create this under the ClassicStartMenu Key instead of the NewStarPanel key.
