Bringelly Historical Note:

The name Bringelly was given to a district of Sydney in the early 19th century and later a Parish of the County of Cumberland. Included in the Parish of Bringelly were the suburbs Wallacia, Badgerys Creek and Greendale. Robert Lowe is believed to be the first British settler in the area having been granted 1000 acres in 1812.

Most of the land had been granted and cleared for farming by 1818.In 1857 a post office was opened and the Bringelley Public School in 1880. Local government didn’t come to the area till 1906 and the creation of the Shire of Nepean which included Hoxton Park and covered from as far south as Narellan and west to the Nepean River. The Shire never thrived so when the NSW Government amalgamated a number of councils in 1948 it was divided up amongst Camden, Penrith, Campbelltown and Liverpool and remains so to this day.
