Dharruk Historical Note:

Dharruk  is located 46 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, it is part of the Greater Western Sydney region and is in the local government area of the City of Blacktown.

Dharruk is derived from the name of the Darug people, an aboriginal tribe that was found to be living in the western area of Sydney.

Throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s the area was dominated with public housing consisting of both free standing fibro houses and terrace style complexes. Over the years many of these homes have reverted to private ownership with many of the government built houses being replaced with modern privately built homes.

Very much a residential area with no industry or commercial activity, the area is dominated by education with both the Mount Druitt campus of Chifley College and Dawson Public School occupying much of the area. Residents of Dharruk have access to retail and commercial business’s in neighbouring suburbs – Plumpton, Emerton and Mount Druitt
