Elanora Heights Historical Note:

Elanora Heights  is located 27 kilometres north east of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of Pittwater Council  and is part of the Northern Beaches region

Elanora Heights comes from an Aboriginal word meaning *Home by the water* or *Home by the sea* and *heights* meaning *up high*. Taking its name from the geographical location – on the hill near the lagoon.

The suburb was born in 1929 as *Elanora Heights Estate* . While earlier settlements had taken shape in the form of a coal mining camp, in 1920 members of the Royal Sydney Golf Club purchased a large parcel of land which would become Elanora Country Golf Club in 1922, with the name being shorted to Elanora  in the late 20th century.

Elanora Heights is now a residential suburb with a few small shops and two golf courses – Monash and Elanora Country Club.
