Lavender Bay Historical Note:

Lavender Bay is located 3 kilometres north of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of North Sydney Council. This harbourside suburb is in the lower North Shore area.

The suburb actually takes its name from the natural features of Lavender Bay. Situated on Port Jackson, to the west of the Sydney Harbour Bridge it lays between McMahon’s Point and Milsons Point. This residential suburb has views overlooking Sydney Harbour

Lavender Bay was named after George Lavender a bosun on the Prison hulk *Phoenix* which was moored there for many years. George Lavender lived on 14 acres of land here adjacent to the property of Billy Blue. The area was originally called Hulk Bay and was sometimes called Phoenix Bay
