Leppington Historical Note:

Leppington is located 55 kilometres south west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of both the City of Liverpool and Camden Council.

Originally home to the Darug people, Leppington was named after a property granted to William Cordeaux in 1821 – Leppington Park. Cordeaux had used convict labour to work in his fields and to build his two story mansion. In the 1940’s the house burnt down, but, some of the bricks from the house we re-used in the building of Leppington Public School.

The first land grant in the area in 1810 was to Alexander Riley who named his property – Raby. The land was subdivided in 1914 and a school built in 1923 was called Raby Public School. However in 1955 the name of the school was changed to Leppington Public School, which may have been inspired by the bricks used from William Cordeaux’s mansion. The area has been known as Leppington since.
