Mount Colah Historical Note:

Mount Colah is located 29 kilometres north west of the Sydney central business district, it is in the local government area of Hornsby Shire and is a northern Sydney suburb.

Mount Colah had originally been known as just Colah naturalist George Caley used it to describe a Koala in a letter to Botanist Sir Joseph Banks. In 1906 when Hornsby became a shire it was changed to Mount Colah.

The nearest major town is Hornsby 5 kilometres away. There is a small group of shops on the Pacific Highway which includes food stores, a truck stop, restaurants, community centre, Doctor and Dentist, Chemist and a Primary school nearby that was built in 1953.

In 1988 the Sydney to Newcastle Freeway was built through Mount Colah, it cut through an old WW2 gravel airstrip and 2 holes of the Asquith Gold course to the south.

Many of the street names in Mount Colah are associated with flora or Arthurian Legend.
