Narrabeen Historical Note:

Narrabeen is located 23 kilometres north east of the Sydney central business district; it is part of the local government area of Warringah Council and is part of the Northern Beaches region.

There are a few theories on the origin of the suburbs name. It is thought the area was named after a young Aboriginal girl Narrabine who lived near the lake and helped soldiers capture escaped convicts. Another is that Narrabeen is the Aboriginal word for Swan, or a narrow lagoon which the Aborigines called Narrowbine. The last suggestion is that a native plant growing near the entrance to the lake was called Narrabin

In 1880 the first bridge over the lake opened, with a second opening in 1925. With the tram being extended into Narrabeen in 1913 easier access to the area made the lake popular for holidays. In 1946 the Wakehurst Parkway opened to North Narrabeen connecting all of the Pittwater area to Seaforth and Frenchs Forest
