North Curl Curl Historical Note:

North Curl Curl is located 19 kilometres north east of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of Warringah Council and is part of the Northern Beaches Region.

It is though Curl Curl has come from the Aboriginal word Curial Curial which means River of life.

The name Curl Curl Lagoon was originally given to Manly Lagoon which empties into the ocean at Queenscliff and the current Curl Curl Lagoon was originally named Harbord Lagoon. This resulted from a land grant of *Harbord* originally being much larger than the area that later bore its name. In the 1980’s the names were changed to reflect the true locations of the lagoons.

Curl Curl Lagoon and Greendale Creek separate North Curl Curl from Curl Curl South.

North Curl Curl has two public schools, Manly Selective Campus of the Northern Beaches Secondary College – originally called Manly Boys High  and Curl Curl North Public School.
