North Narrabeen Historical Note:

North Narrabeen is located 25 kilometres north of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of Pittwater Council, and is part of the Northern Beaches region.

There are many theories and suggestions to how Narrabeen got its name including - Narrabeen is an aboriginal word Narrabine that means many swans. Narrabine was the name of an aboriginal girl; who lived near the lake, helping capture convicts, or a native plant growing near the lake entrance. Mr Greg Narra an early explorer who after being lost lived on wild beans calling them Narra’s beans.

In 1815 the first land grants in the area were given out.

Travellers had to ford the lake until 1880 when the first bridge opened, a second bridge followed in 1925. In 1913 an extension of the tram service came through which made the lake a popular holiday spot, a large camping spot was opened on the north shore of the lagoon
