North St Marys Historical Note:

North St Marys is located 47 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Penrith, and is in the western Sydney region. North St Mary’s is an extension of the neighbouring suburb of St Mary’s.

The area we know now as North St Mary’s was home to the Gomerrigal-Tongarra people who spoke the language of the Darug people. By 1816 due to fights with the British and a smallpox epidemic their numbers reduced considerably.

In 1820, Phillip Parker King, son of the Governor Phillip Gidley King was given the areas first land grant. He named his land Triangle Farm, but did very little with it. It remained largely vacant land till the Commonwealth Government bought it in the 1840’s to house workers from the St Mary’s munitions factory.

Suburbs surrounding North St Mary’s include Ropes Crossing, Tregear, Whalan, Mount Druitt, St Mary’s and Oxley Park
