North Sydney Historical Note:

North Sydney is located 3 kilometres north of the Sydney central business district. It is the administrative centre for the local area government of North Sydney Council, and is part of the lower North Shore area of Sydney.

The north side of Sydney Harbour was called Warung by the Aboriginal people; the word means the other side, whilst those on the northern side used the same word to describe those on the southern side.

European settlers first called it Hunterhill after a property owned by a Scottish political reformer, who purchased land near where the north pylon of the Sydney Harbour Bridge is located. The house he built there he named after his childhood home. The area north to Gore Hill became known as St Leonards.  In 1836 the township of St Leonards was laid out in what is now North Sydney. There were 106 houses here by 1846

In 1971-1972 no less than 27 skyscrapers were built here.
