Rooty Hill Historical Note:

Rooty Hill is located 42 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Blacktown and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region.

Rooty Hill was named after a hill on Norfolk Island. Governor Philip Gidley King had been in charge of the first settlement there in 1788. He noted that when trying to build his Government House it had been hard to dig the soil due to the amount of tree roots under the surface, hence the name – Rooty Hill. When returning to New South Wales in 1802 while building the headquarters for his government reserve at the foot of a hill, it reminded him of Norfolk Island.  In 1803 the name Rooty Hill first appeared on a map.

Some of the commercial areas include – Rooty Hill RSL Club which has been marketed as the *Vegas of the West*. There is a Novotel Hotel next to the RSL
