Wakeley Historical Note:

Wakeley is located 34 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Fairfield and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region.

Wakeley has been named after Daniel Wakeley who was an early settler in the area. Up until 1980 the area was mostly used for farming before being redeveloped into a residential suburb.

There is a small shopping centre and two schools – King Park Public School and the Mary MacKillop College, which is run by the Sisters of Joseph. The Salvation Army and a charity centre are also located in Wakeley.

Wakeley is situated close to the Fairfield Showgrounds, the Fairfield City Gold Course and parks and reserves including Kings Park and Hampshire Reserve.

Neighbouring suburbs include Greenfield Park, St Johns Park, Fairfield, Fairfield West and Canley Heights.
