Wedderburn Historical Note:

Wedderburn is located 57 kilometres south west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Campbelltown and is a part of the Macarthur region.

Wedderburn is the only suburb of Campbelltown that is on the right bank of the Georges River. Due to the heavy bushland setting and steep gorge, the area has more of a country town atmosphere rather than that of a suburb.

Once home to the Tharawal Aboriginal people, the land wasn’t cleared till the 1880’s; settlers used the land to establish orchards, many of which are still in use today. In 1892 the first Wedderburn Bridge was built and in 1896 the post office and school were established.

The council is keen to protect the gorges around Wedderburn and O’Hare’s Creek Gorge to the east is to become a national park.

Surrounding suburbs include St Helens Park, Gilead, Appin, Holsworthy and the Woronora Dam.
