Wentworth Point Historical Note:

Wentworth Point is located 16 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of Auburn Council. Wentworth Point is on the western shore of Homebush Bay and on the southern side of the Parramatta River.

This area was once a part of the suburb of Homebush that in turn was named after Homebush Bay. Homebush was established by the colony’s then assistant surgeon D’arcy Wentworth in the 1800’s. Wentworth has been credited with having called the area his *Home in the bush* although there is also a place called Homebush in Kent, England.

In 1976 the northern part of the peninsula was gazetted as Wentworth Point. In 2009 the waterfront residential area was renamed Wentworth Point.

The area has been used for a number of industrial businesses including plywood manufacturer Ralph Simonds which used the Parramatta River as transport for large logs that were moored at Homebush Bay for processing.
