Werrington County Historical Note:

Werrington County is located 50 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Penrith, and is part of the Greater Western Sydney region.

The area was once home to the Gomerrigal-Tongarra Aboriginal people who spoke the Darug language. In 1806 Mary King was the first to receive a land grant in the area, but she didn’t take possession of the property till 1827 after her marriage to Robert Lethbridge. They built a house they named Werrington and until 1865 when Robert died they farmed the lands surrounding their estate. The house is still standing.

Up until the 1980’s the area was still farmland until lots were sold for housing and the suburb started to develop. The primary school was established in 1982 and then relocated within the suburb in 1988. Werrington County is at a slightly higher altitude than many of the other suburbs in the Penrith area.
