West Pymble Historical Note:

West Pymble is located 18 kilometres north west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of Ku-ring-gai Council. West Pymble is in the Upper North Shore area of Sydney. Pymble is a separate suburb to the east.

The suburb began development after the Second World War with a mix of defence personnel housing and soldiers returning from war. The housing trend was for three bedroom weatherboard cottages. Most have since been renovated or demolished.

Located in Kendall Street is the Philip Mall shopping centre. It is a street shopping centre with shops located on both sides of the road. It includes a physiotherapist, dentist, ATM’s, DVD rental store, IGA Supermarket, hairdresser, takeaways, cafe’s, butcher, bread shop, art and craft shop, chocolate shops, chemist, toy store and bottle shop.

The mall was redeveloped in the 1990’s which included replacing gardens, paved foot paths, more seating, a children’s playground and the installation of bike stands
