Westleigh Historical Note:

Westleigh is located 27 kilometres north west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of Hornsby Shire.

Westleigh has been named after its location, directly WEST of Thornleigh. In the 1950’s development in the area began as a residential suburb following the subdivision of land. The area was heavily timbered, so many of the streets have been named to reflect this. Eucalyptus Drive, Peppermint Gum Place, Stringybark Close, Spotted Gum Road and ironbark Close. Strangely enough many of the streets named after plants do not have a single specimen in them.

There are two large public parks on the south side of Westleigh – Ruddock Park and Oakleigh Oval. Children’s play equipment and public barbeques are freely available. There are tennis courts at Ruddock Park and a fenced off dog park was established in 2005 between the shopping centre and Ruddock Park.

Neighbouring suburbs include Dural, Cherrybrook, Pennant Hills, Hornsby and Thornleigh.
