Yarramundi Historical Note:

Yarramundi is located 69 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district; it is in the local government area of the City of Hawkesbury.

The suburb has been named after an Indigenous Australian – Yarramundi who was of the Boorooberongal clan of the Darug people. He was a *Garadyi* or Doctor and was called by the colonists as the *Chief of the Richmond tribe*

The area had at one time been known as Kearns Retreat.

In 1925 Nepean Sand and Gravel limited established a sand mine on the island at Yarramundi Falls. An aerial ropeway connected the island with the railway sidings near Phillip. Following a flood that destroyed the ropeway, in 1927 a railway was laid from the island to the existing sidings. This railway was operated by locomotives owned by Nepean Sand and Gravel. They replaced the trains with trucks in 1946
